
The Kwara State Government has launched a one-day training programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in pedagogy for selected public senior secondary school teachers, aiming to modernize classroom practices and enhance digital literacy among educators. The programme, themed “Empowering the 21st Century Educator,” took place at the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development Resource Centre in Tanke, Ilorin.
Declaring the programme open, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, described the initiative as a pivotal step in the state’s education reform agenda. He urged teachers to embrace their role as “architects of transformation,” highlighting that AI integration extends beyond technical skills to reimagining the delivery of knowledge in classrooms. “Let today be the beginning of a new chapter, one where Kwara classrooms become hubs of innovation, inclusion, and inspiration,” Dr. Olohungbebe said, stressing the importance of preparing students and educators for the demands of a rapidly evolving digital world.
Acknowledging the support of Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Commissioner noted that the administration’s investment in education has created an enabling environment for innovations such as AI in teaching. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Olanrewaju Rebecca Bake, praised the Governor’s commitment to revamping education and encouraged participants to apply the skills gained for the benefit of students statewide. Lead trainer Mrs. Fadimu Benedicta Toyosi described the workshop as a “golden opportunity” for teachers to adapt to the realities of digital learning, commending the Ministry’s proactive efforts to modernize classroom pedagogy.
Participants expressed appreciation for the training and called for its decentralisation to reach more teachers across the state. The event was attended by senior management of the Ministry, including Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply, Alhaji Abduraheem Abiodun Rufai, and Director of Human Capital Development, Oludare Olawumi Victoria.
