
The Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (PLASCHEMA) has commenced its second biannual General Staff Meeting and Training Program, bringing together staff from the agency’s headquarters on September 16th, 2025, at the Crest Hotel and Gardens, Jos. The event served as an avenue for reflection, professional development, and strengthening the agency’s unified approach towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all residents of Plateau State.
Addressing the staff, the Director-General, Dr. Solomon Dawal Kwande, expressed humility at his appointment and pledged to carry out his assignment with a deep sense of responsibility. Describing his appointment as a collective call for the agency to advance its mission, Dr. Kwande commended directors for their collaborative spirit, emphasizing that their teamwork is crucial to moving the agency forward. He noted that PLASCHEMA is a “lifeline” that has positively impacted numerous lives by reducing healthcare costs.
The Director of Human Resources and Administration, Mrs. Ruth Fada, highlighted the meeting as an opportunity to renew dedication to excellence and teamwork. She urged staff to make meaningful contributions, stressing that collective effort is key to ensuring no one is left behind.
The day’s training sessions featured departmental presentations reviewing core functions and offering insights into the agency’s operations. Guest speakers from the National Housing Fund, Mrs. Josephine Bemu and Mr. Kichime James, discussed various types of loans accessible to agency staff, noting financial disparities between informal sector workers and civil servants.
Other presentations included the Director of Health Services, Standards and Quality Control, Pharm. David Danladi Wuyep, who highlighted the importance of quality control in achieving client satisfaction. Dr. Kwande, representing the Department of Operations and ICT, discussed challenges in health insurance and strategies such as waiting periods and authorization codes to mitigate risks.
Dr. Jude Julfa Nden, Director of Planning, Research & Statistics, described the department as the “heartbeat” of the agency, converting raw data into evidence-based policies. Mrs. Theresa Gofwen, Director of Marketing & Business Development, emphasized the department’s role as the “engine for growth and sustainability” through strategic partnerships and resource mobilization.
Finance, Investment, and Audit Directors, Mrs. Altine Gongden and Mr. Stephen Dasogot, underscored the importance of collaboration, ethical regulations, and accurate documentation for efficient operations. Mrs. Fada concluded the presentations with a session on employee conduct, clarifying distinctions between misconduct and serious misconduct under public service rules, and outlining formal processes for addressing issues.
The first day of the meeting set a clear tone for collaboration, accountability, and a renewed focus on PLASCHEMA’s core mandate, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to advancing universal health coverage across Plateau State.
