Peter Obi made a remarkable mark at the Black Congressional Week activities in Washington, DC, on Thursday, 25th September 2025, highlighting African development, governance, and global partnerships.
The day kicked off at the Congressional Black Caucus Week Reception, hosted by Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock at the U.S. Senate Kennedy Caucus Room. Obi used the platform to discuss Africa’s democratic progress and its enormous potential on the global stage.
Next, he engaged with Georgia Power, the largest independent power company in the state, generating over 20,000 megawatts nationwide. Obi praised the company’s innovative approach, noting the critical role of energy infrastructure in driving development.
At the One Voice Africa event, organized to defend the dignity of Black immigrants, Obi stressed the importance of good governance in Africa. “Africa’s potential is limitless if guided by visionary and responsible leadership,” he stated.
The day reached its pinnacle when Obi was conferred Honorary Citizenship of Georgia, a recognition of his commitment to African development and global engagement. Reflecting on the experience, Obi said, “The events today have reminded me that learning, service, and collaboration are key to building a new Nigeria—one that is strong, accountable, and inclusive.”
From diplomacy to advocacy, Obi’s participation underscored the power of global dialogue in advancing Africa’s interests while inspiring new paths for leadership and innovation.
