The Ogun State Government is deepening its international partnerships, as Governor Dapo Abiodun, MFR, on Tuesday held a high-level strategic meeting with the Mayor of Rizhao, Wang Xinsheng, to explore new areas of collaboration between the state and the Chinese coastal city.

The discussions, which took place as part of Ogun’s economic diplomacy drive, focused on the development of the Olokola Deep Sea Port, a project the Governor described as central to his vision of positioning Ogun as Nigeria’s premier industrial and maritime hub.

Governor Abiodun noted that the state is also exploring opportunities in mineral exploration and development, with emphasis on attracting technical expertise and international investments that can maximize value from Ogun’s natural endowments.

Beyond infrastructure and economic prospects, the Governor highlighted the importance of cultural and people-to-people exchanges, stressing that sustainable international partnerships are best nurtured through deeper social and cultural ties.

“This engagement with Rizhao is another demonstration of our commitment to forging global alliances that will not only accelerate infrastructure development and industrial growth in Ogun State but also enrich the experiences of our people,” Abiodun said.

The Rizhao meeting is the latest in Ogun State’s series of international engagements aimed at expanding trade, cultural cooperation, and foreign investment opportunities that align with the administration’s long-term development agenda.

Rizhao, located in Shandong Province, Eastern China, is one of the world’s busiest deep-water ports and a key hub for bulk cargo shipping, including iron ore, coal, and agricultural products. Its port facilities connect China to major global trade routes, making it a strategic partner for countries and regions seeking stronger maritime and logistics cooperation.

The city is also known for its investments in renewable energy, modern infrastructure, and cultural tourism, which positions it as an ideal partner for Ogun State’s vision of becoming an industrial and maritime hub for Nigeria and West Africa.

By engaging with Rizhao, Ogun State is not only seeking to advance the Olokola Deep Sea Port project but also to tap into global trade networks, technical expertise, and cultural exchange opportunities that can accelerate the state’s economic transformation.
