The Federal Government has reconstituted and inaugurated the Mahmud Yayale Ahmed Federal Government Tertiary Institutions Expanded Negotiation Committee, aimed at accelerating discussions with academic and non-academic unions across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

Speaking at the inauguration, Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, emphasized that the committee is structured to harmonize all negotiation processes under one coordinated framework, ensuring sector-wide inclusiveness and continuity. He was joined by the Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, and the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmed.

“Unlike previous fragmented negotiations, the expanded committee will engage all unions collectively to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable agreement,” Dr. Alausa said. He added that a well-equipped secretariat has been provided, and the committee’s inaugural meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7.

Dr. Alausa disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given full political backing, directing that negotiations be concluded swiftly, fairly, and in the spirit of mutual respect. “President Tinubu’s mandate is that all our children must be in school. This is renewed hope in action,” he noted.

The Minister of Labour and Employment commended the inclusive approach, stressing that lasting peace requires participation from all stakeholders. He urged the committee members to act as impartial mediators, ensuring fairness and stability while fostering transparent and effective implementation of agreements.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman Alhaji Mahmud Yayale Ahmed pledged to approach negotiations with openness, inclusiveness, and integrity, assuring stakeholders that outcomes will be practical, realistic, and capable of sustaining long-term peace and productivity in tertiary institutions.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to restoring stability and trust in the education sector, emphasizing that through inclusive dialogue, fair negotiation, and decisive leadership, the Renewed Hope Agenda will ensure that every student remains in school, every teacher is valued, and all institutions thrive in an environment of peace, progress, and shared prosperity.
