The Honourable Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, has called on Nigerians, particularly those in leadership positions, to uphold the enduring ideals of patriotism, education, and public service as essential values for advancing economic empowerment and inclusive national growth.
Dr. Uzoka-Anite made the remarks in Abuja on Friday, October 24, 2025, while receiving the Committee for the 6th Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe Annual Award Memorial Lecture, led by its Chairman and former Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu. The delegation paid her a courtesy visit to formally notify her of her nomination for the prestigious national honour.
In her remarks, the Minister described Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe’s legacy as timeless and profoundly relevant to today’s Nigeria, emphasizing that his principles of patriotism, education, and public service remain vital for building an equitable and prosperous nation. “Dr. Azikiwe’s ideals of patriotism, education, and public service remain timeless. It is our duty, as leaders of today, to translate those ideals into economic empowerment, inclusive growth, and opportunities for all Nigerians,” she stated.
Dr. Uzoka-Anite reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Finance’s commitment to driving sound fiscal management, inclusive economic policies, and sustainable national prosperity under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. She added that recognitions like the Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe Memorial Award inspire public officials to serve with greater diligence and dedication.
Expressing her gratitude, she thanked President Tinubu, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, Zenith Bank Chairman Jim Ovia, and all Nigerians for the opportunity to contribute to nation-building. She also commended the award committee for its commitment to honoring national icons and promoting dialogue on leadership, governance, and development.
Earlier in his remarks, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu praised Dr. Uzoka-Anite’s outstanding achievements and integrity in the financial sector, describing her nomination as “unanimous and well-deserved.” He underscored the importance of unity and shared purpose as the foundation for Nigeria’s sustainable development, adding that the Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe Memorial Award recognizes individuals whose contributions have positively impacted their communities, the nation, and humanity.
The visit, which precedes the upcoming 6th Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe Annual Memorial Lecture and Award Ceremony scheduled for November 2025, also reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to fostering civic engagement and value-based leadership in public service.
