The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Salihu Seidu, over the alleged killing of his 65-year-old father-in-law, Alhaji Lawal Umar, in Agah village, Moro Local Government Area of the state.

According to a police account published on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Umar was found dead inside his tent at a Fulani settlement on October 6, with injuries reportedly inflicted by a machete.

The command said it received information about the incident at about 9 a.m. and dispatched officers to the scene to document the circumstances surrounding the death. Umar’s body was subsequently released to his eldest son for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Police said Seidu was arrested on October 9 at Temidire Fulani Camp following a tip-off during the investigation.

Preliminary findings reportedly indicated that the suspect travelled to the deceased’s camp on the night of October 6. Investigators alleged that he entered Umar’s tent while other occupants were asleep, attacked him and fled. Police said a machete was recovered as an exhibit.

During interrogation, Seidu reportedly confessed to the killing, claiming he believed Umar was responsible for his son’s death approximately two weeks earlier.

However, the police did not disclose further details about the circumstances of the child’s death or provide evidence linking Umar to it. The allegation against the deceased therefore remains unsubstantiated in the available report.

The command said investigations were continuing to determine whether other individuals were involved in the incident.

As of the report published on October 13, police had not disclosed whether Seidu had been formally charged in court. He was expected to be arraigned after the conclusion of the investigation.
