In a significant move to strengthen local enterprise and advance inclusive economic growth, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, on Tuesday disbursed ₦401 million in business support grants to over 1,000 beneficiaries across Eket, Esit Eket, ONNA, and Ibeno Local Government Areas — all within the Eket Federal Constituency.
The intervention, executed under the administration’s ARISE Agenda, is aimed at empowering small business owners, enhancing livelihoods, and promoting sustainable economic development at the grassroots. It is part of a broader framework that also includes the state’s ₦2 billion Agricultural Support Fund and ₦2 billion Traders’ Grant Scheme, both of which continue to provide critical financial assistance to farmers and market traders across the state.
Governor Eno, while addressing stakeholders during the disbursement event, expressed appreciation for the widespread support and endorsement received from constituents and local leaders. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equitable development and disclosed that over 70 projects have been successfully completed in the federal constituency within his first two years in office.
“We remain committed to fostering economic resilience and unity across all communities. Our vision is to ensure that development is both people-driven and impactful,” the Governor stated.
As part of the visit, the Governor also received the NEEDS Document — a comprehensive development framework presented by the four Local Government Areas to guide future project planning and implementation. In response, he announced the constitution of a high-level committee to address the longstanding Stubb Creek Forest dispute, underscoring his administration’s dedication to environmental stewardship and conflict resolution.
The event marked a continuation of Governor Eno’s inclusive governance approach, with emphasis on stakeholder engagement, community-driven development, and sustainable economic empowerment.
