The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah, recently received in his office the Epie/Atissa CDC Chairmen Forum, led by Mr. Asuefien Osain of Yenizue-Epie. The community leaders expressed appreciation to His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri, for his significant strides in advancing educational development in Bayelsa State, particularly in Yenagoa, the state capital. They highlighted notable achievements such as the commissioning of six new secondary schools in Ovom, Ekeki, Yenizue-Epie, Biogbolo, Igbogene, and Akenfa, along with other projects across the city.
During the meeting, the leaders appealed for additional school buildings to accommodate the rising population in Yenagoa and for perimeter fencing for some existing schools to enhance safety and accessibility. In response, Dr. Emelah commended the forum for their visit and reiterated the administration’s unwavering commitment to educational advancement at all levels. He emphasized that under Gov. Diri, Bayelsa State continues to make significant progress in education, with new schools being constructed, dilapidated ones renovated, and teaching staff recruited based on needs assessments to improve instructional quality.
Dr. Emelah stressed that collaboration with community leaders remains a cornerstone of the administration’s strategy to drive societal development. He assured that government will continue to engage key stakeholders to ensure that educational initiatives not only meet the current demands but also prepare students for future opportunities. By prioritizing education infrastructure, manpower, and community partnership, the Diri administration is creating a sustainable model for academic growth, inclusivity, and improved learning outcomes across Bayelsa State.
Stone Reporters Note: This engagement underscores the importance of continuous dialogue between government officials and community leaders in shaping education policies. With Bayelsa State’s population on the rise, challenges such as overcrowding, limited facilities, and the need for enhanced school security remain pressing. However, the proactive approach of Gov. Diri’s administration in commissioning new schools, renovating old ones, and recruiting teachers demonstrates a tangible commitment to addressing these issues. Such initiatives not only improve access to quality education but also foster community trust and participation, ensuring that development efforts are sustainable and inclusive.
