Kaduna Bureau Strengthens Ties with Advocacy Groups on Sickle Cell Data and Awareness

The Statistician General of Kaduna State, Bukar Baba Alhaji, PhD, has reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to supporting advocacy efforts on sickle cell disorder through reliable data generation and evidence-based planning.

He gave this assurance while receiving a joint delegation led by Rabiatu Ja’afaru Saeed of the Sickle Cell Advocacy and Empowerment Network (SCAEN) and Dr. Livingstone Dogara of CONSA. The visit marked a continuation of earlier engagements aimed at deepening collaboration in policy development, awareness creation, and intervention strategies for sickle cell management across Kaduna State.

Commending the visiting organizations, the Statistician General praised their dedication to patient empowerment and community sensitization. He noted that accurate statistics play a pivotal role in shaping health outcomes, adding that the Bureau remains committed to providing data that strengthens advocacy and informs government interventions.

The delegation expressed appreciation for the Bureau’s openness and support, while also reaffirming their resolve to partner in driving preventive and empowerment programmes. As part of the visit, they presented an award of excellence to the Statistician General in recognition of his leadership and outstanding contributions to advancing Nigeria’s statistical system.

The meeting highlighted the growing importance of partnerships between government institutions and civil society in tackling health challenges, with both sides pledging to sustain collaboration for greater impact in Kaduna State.
