The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), in collaboration with the Master Agent Show, has unveiled a new initiative designed to instill integrity and accountability in young Nigerians. The programme, known as the Basic Education Anti-Corruption Debate (BEAD), was formally launched during a press briefing on Thursday at the ICPC Headquarters in Abuja.
The ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, was represented at the event by the Divisional Head of Education, Mr. Okor Odey. In his remarks, Mr. Odey explained that the BEAD project reflects the Commission’s vision of addressing social challenges through education, awareness, and reorientation. He noted that the initiative is not just about competition and recognition but about reshaping how young Nigerians perceive and practice integrity in their daily lives.
“The goal is to integrate discussions on ethics into their everyday life,” he said, describing BEAD as a renewed national commitment to transparency that will inspire new narratives of honesty and accountability for future generations.
Managing Director of the Master Agent Show, Mr. Osigbeme Enike, highlighted the programme’s grassroots focus, stating that it was conceived to empower young people as champions of transparency and ethical values. He revealed that schools participating in the debate will submit video entries on selected themes, with top entries broadcast across partner media outlets projected to reach millions of radio and digital viewers nationwide.
According to Enike, BEAD will run from September 2025 to July 2026 in four phases: School Engagement, Regional Selection, Nationwide Broadcast, and Awards. In addition to monetary prizes, winners and outstanding participants will also benefit from scholarships, laptops, and other educational support. He further disclosed that complementary campaigns, including the “5 Principles Against Corruption,” will accompany the programme to reinforce its impact.
Director of Marketing and Sponsorship at the Master Agent Show, Mr. Dominic Ogaku, also underscored the importance of leveraging digital platforms. He noted that BEAD will provide young people with opportunities to develop ideas that strengthen anti-corruption values while promoting responsible use of technology in today’s digital age.
Organisers estimate that the project will engage more than 50,000 students from over 5,000 junior secondary schools across Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT. The unveiling of BEAD at the ICPC Headquarters marks another bold step in the Commission’s drive to promote transparency, accountability, and civic responsibility through education.
