Governor Sanwo-Olu Hails Lagos Teachers’ Outstanding Performance at National Awards

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has commended the state’s teachers and schools for their exceptional performance at the 2025 World Teachers’ Day and President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards held in Abuja, describing their achievements as a reflection of the state’s continuous investment in education and human capital development.

Lagos State emerged as one of the top-performing states at the national celebration, with two schools and two teachers receiving prestigious awards for excellence in teaching, leadership, and school administration.

Among the honorees was Odenike Fausat Mobolaji of Elepe Community Junior High School, Ikorodu, who won the Overall Best Administrator award with a cash prize of ₦3.5 million, recognized for her exceptional leadership, mentorship, and dedication to improving education quality.

Also recognized were Onike Girls Junior High School, which clinched the Overall Best Junior School in Nigeria (Public) and received a school bus for promoting academic excellence, discipline, and girl-child empowerment, and Eva Adelaja Memorial Girls Senior Secondary School, which emerged 1st Runner-up in the Best Senior Secondary School Category.
In addition, Adeosun Clement of Education District VI was named 2nd Overall Best Teacher (Junior School Category) in the public school category.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his congratulatory message, praised the awardees for bringing pride to Lagos State, reaffirming that their recognition is proof of the government’s sustained reforms in education under the T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda.

“This victory is not just for the awardees but for every teacher in Lagos who continues to dedicate their lives to nurturing our future leaders. Our investments in teacher training, school infrastructure, and digital learning continue to yield remarkable results,” the Governor said.

The Governor also noted that Lagos State will continue to prioritize teachers’ welfare and capacity building, ensuring that they remain motivated and well-equipped to deliver quality education.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, in his address, emphasized the importance of collaboration among educators under the theme “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession.” He highlighted ongoing federal initiatives like the National Teacher Development Policy and Professional Learning Communities aimed at fostering teacher cooperation nationwide.

The World Teachers’ Day celebration, held annually on October 5, honors teachers for their dedication and indispensable role in shaping the nation’s educational future.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated that Lagos will continue to lead by example, fostering innovation, inclusivity, and excellence across its schools.
