A Benin-based businesswoman, Rita Agu, has raised alarm over what she described as the unjust arrest of her friend and neighbour, Uzu Anthonia, following a reported burglary at her residence in Benin City.

According to information gathered, the incident occurred while Rita, who resides at No. 6 Airuedo Street, Airport Road, was away on a business trip on October 8, 2025. She reportedly received a call from her friend and neighbour, Uzu Anthonia, informing her that her apartment had been broken into.

Upon returning to Benin City on October 11, 2025, Rita confirmed that her apartment had indeed been burgled. She contacted her landlord and the caretaker of the house, but neither reportedly responded or came to inspect the scene. Consequently, she proceeded to file an official report at the Estate Police Station on October 13, 2025.

Following her complaint, the police invited all neighbours for questioning and subsequently arrested and detained Uzu Anthonia on the same day. She was later released on October 15, 2025, reportedly without proper explanation or the complainant’s knowledge.

Rita alleged that the Investigating Police Officer (IPO), identified as Miss Ruth, alongside another officer, Ontario, of the Estate Police Station, told her to drop the case without providing any clear reason or conducting a thorough investigation. She expressed shock at the manner in which the matter was handled, lamenting that she was denied justice.

According to Rita, she lost eight (8) human hair wigs worth โ‚ฆ3 million and an HP laptop valued at โ‚ฆ650,000 during the burglary. She stated that despite pressure from the officers to drop the matter, she remains determined to pursue the case in court to ensure justice is served.

As of press time, the Edo State Police Command has not issued an official statement regarding the incident or clarified whether Uzu Anthonia will face charges or be cleared of wrongdoing.
