Former Edo State governor and current senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has called on his colleagues in the National Assembly and other political leaders across Nigeria to commit to ending electoral malpractice and the use of political thugs during elections.
Speaking during a recent Senate session, Oshiomhole urged politicians to embrace genuine democratic principles, warning that the continued manipulation of election results and the sponsorship of violence threaten Nigeria’s democracy.
“Let us stop rigging elections and arming thugs,” Oshiomhole stated emphatically, adding that politicians must take personal responsibility for promoting peace and transparency in the political process.
Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District, emphasized that credible elections are the foundation of national stability and development. He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure fairness in future polls while political parties must prioritize internal democracy over personal ambition.
His remarks have sparked widespread discussions among lawmakers and political observers, many of whom see his comments as a bold acknowledgment of Nigeria’s persistent electoral challenges.
