The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of five suspects and the rescue of 57 Nigerian nationals in what authorities described as a major operation against a human trafficking and cybercrime syndicate operating within the country.

According to a statement from the police, the raid was conducted following intelligence-led surveillance on a suspected network involved in cross-border trafficking and online fraud activities.

The operation, which took place earlier this week, is part of Ghana’s ongoing crackdown on international criminal organizations exploiting vulnerable individuals, particularly from neighboring countries.

Police sources told Stone Reporter News that the victims, mostly young men and women, were allegedly lured from Nigeria with false promises of lucrative employment opportunities, only to be forced into illegal online activities and exploitative labor once they arrived in Ghana.

Authorities confirmed that all 57 rescued victims are currently receiving medical care, counseling, and temporary shelter, while arrangements are being made to repatriate them to Nigeria through the appropriate diplomatic channels.

“The Ghana Police remain committed to dismantling transnational criminal networks and ensuring that perpetrators of such heinous crimes face justice,” the police spokesperson said.

The five arrested suspects are currently in custody and are expected to face charges related to human trafficking, cybercrime, and unlawful confinement once investigations are concluded.

Officials from both Ghana and Nigeria are reportedly collaborating closely to uncover the full extent of the network and identify other accomplices possibly operating across West African borders.

This latest development highlights the growing regional challenge of cross-border cybercrime and human exploitation, which law enforcement agencies across Africa have been working to combat through joint operations and intelligence sharing.
