The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed as false and misleading the allegation by the Party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, claiming that his signature was forged on a letter transmitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concerning the upcoming 2025 Elective National Convention.
In a detailed clarification released on Thursday, the BoT stated that the said INEC notification letter was jointly signed by the National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, during the 102nd meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP held on August 25, 2025.
According to the BoT, the signing took place in full view of critical party organs and stakeholders, including members of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the Board of Trustees, and other NEC members, all of whom witnessed the process.
The statement further revealed that Senator Anyanwu was formally inaugurated as the Secretary of the Contact and Mobilization Sub-Committee for the National Convention, and that in this capacity, he co-signed several official communications with the Sub-Committee Chairman, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State.
It also added that Senator Anyanwu personally signed and transmitted a letter requesting financial approval for the sub-committee’s inaugural meeting — evidence that further invalidates his claim of forgery.
“In view of these incontrovertible facts, the BoT finds Senator Anyanwu’s claim of forgery to be baseless, misleading, and, to say the least, reprehensible, being inconsistent with the documented record of events,” the statement read.
The BoT condemned the allegation as an attempt to “cast aspersions on the integrity of the Party’s leadership and processes” and to mislead the public and security agencies.
Reaffirming its commitment to unity and internal democracy, the Board emphasized that the PDP remains cohesive, resolute, and transparent, with preparations in full swing for the 2025 Elective National Convention, scheduled to hold from Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The BoT urged members, stakeholders, and supporters to disregard the unfounded claims and continue to support the party’s leadership as it advances efforts toward Nigeria’s democratic renewal.
