The Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau (OSERB) has issued a new directive requiring that all electricity installations, constructions, and extensions—particularly those along public road right-of-ways—receive prior approval from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Outlined in Regulatory Order No: OSERB/RO/2025/102/199 and signed by the State Coordinator, Engr. Stephen Olugbenga Bolawole, FNSE, the order takes immediate effect and seeks to enhance public safety and ensure proper coordination of electricity infrastructure across the state.

Engr. Bolawole explained that the measure is backed by the Ondo State Electric Power Sector Law 2020, the Electricity Act 2023, and the amended Constitution, which grant states authority over electricity generation, transmission, and distribution within their territories.

All ongoing electricity projects along public road right-of-ways are to be suspended immediately until the necessary permits and safety clearances are obtained. The Coordinator warned that violations will attract sanctions, removal of unauthorized installations, or prosecution.

To guarantee compliance, the OSERB Task Force has been charged with enforcing the directive across all Local Government Areas, aiming to protect residents from unsafe power infrastructure and ensure orderly expansion of electricity services.
