In a decisive move to enhance road safety and improve mobility across Uyo metropolis, Governor Umo Eno has directed the Ministry of Works to conduct a comprehensive assessment of potholes and damaged road sections for immediate intervention.
The State Government noted that the recent heavy and prolonged rainfall has contributed to the deterioration of some roads, creating challenges for motorists and residents. Officials assured the public that, as the rains subside, rehabilitation work will commence in earnest, with a focus on durable reconstruction to prevent recurring damage.
In addition to road repairs, the administration has prioritized desilting of drainages and clearing of blocked water channels across Uyo to minimize flooding and further protect road infrastructure.
Governor Eno’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to the Infrastructure Development thrust of the ARISE Agenda, emphasizing routine maintenance alongside ongoing construction projects. Currently, over 964 kilometers of new and inherited roads and bridges are under development across Akwa Ibom State, demonstrating a sustained focus on enhancing mobility, safety, and the aesthetic appeal of urban centers.
The government has also appealed to residents and motorists for patience and understanding, assuring them that arrangements are being finalized for the Ministry of Works to respond swiftly and responsibly to all infrastructure needs throughout the state.
