The National Economic Council (NEC) has given its backing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposal to overhaul and modernize training institutions for security agencies across Nigeria. The decision was reached during the council’s recent session, aimed at strengthening national security and boosting the capacity of security personnel.
As part of the implementation, NEC approved the constitution of a dedicated committee to oversee the comprehensive revamp of training facilities for all security agencies. The initiative is expected to enhance operational efficiency, professional development, and preparedness in tackling emerging security challenges nationwide.
In addition, the council endorsed an anticipatory action framework to prevent and mitigate riverine flooding across all 36 states, emphasizing proactive planning and risk management to safeguard lives, property, and critical infrastructure.
During the session, Vice President Kashim Shettima urged state governments to align their policies and programs with the President’s growth targets, underscoring the importance of cooperation between the federal and state levels to achieve sustainable development and security objectives.
The NEC’s endorsement marks a significant step toward strengthening both national security infrastructure and disaster preparedness, reflecting the administration’s focus on long-term strategic planning and citizen protection.
