Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has taken a major step to improve education in the state by appointing 400 new Mathematics teachers in secondary schools. These appointments are permanent and come with pension benefits, ensuring stability for the teachers and the schools.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced that this move is in response to the shortage of qualified teachers in key subjects, which has been affecting student performance and their readiness for future careers.
Governor Yusuf stressed the importance of Mathematics as the foundation for science, technology, engineering, and innovation. He said that building a strong base in these areas is crucial for Kano to compete effectively in today’s knowledge-driven world.
The new teachers are expected to improve the quality of teaching, help students achieve better exam results, and open more opportunities for students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
The governor praised the Ministry of Education and the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board for conducting a transparent and effective recruitment process. He also urged the teachers to teach with passion, dedication, and professionalism, emphasizing that they must justify the confidence placed in them.
This initiative is part of Kano’s broader efforts to strengthen its education system and prepare students for a competitive future.
