A violent raid unfolded last night in Kwargaba community, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, leaving several residents killed and injured, as well as eight women abducted, security sources confirmed. Armed bandits stormed the village under the cover of darkness, unleashing gunfire and terrorizing local inhabitants before fleeing into surrounding areas.

Security forces, alongside local vigilante groups, launched an immediate pursuit of the attackers. Despite rapid response efforts, authorities were unable to locate or recover the eight abducted women. Sources indicate that the victims were taken by the bandits, who are believed to have retreated into remote forested terrain known for harbouring armed groups.

During follow-up operations, four suspected bandits were apprehended by the combined security teams. Investigators are currently interrogating the suspects to determine their involvement in the Kwargaba attack and to gather intelligence on the location of the abducted women.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements, while promising that search and rescue operations will continue until the kidnapped women are safely recovered. Community leaders have condemned the attack, describing it as part of a growing wave of insecurity in northern Nigeria, and called for intensified measures to protect civilians against recurring banditry.

Security analysts warn that attacks of this nature highlight the persistent challenge of rural insecurity in the northwest, where inadequate policing, rugged terrain, and organized bandit networks create vulnerabilities for local populations. The Sokoto State government has pledged renewed focus on proactive patrols, intelligence-led operations, and stronger community-security collaboration to prevent future attacks.
