The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Anikpe Valentine Chibuike, in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, Ogechukwu Mmadubugwu, a 35-year-old single mother, in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of the state. The arrest marks a significant development in a case that has shocked residents and reignited public debate on domestic violence and relationship-related crimes in the region.
The suspect was apprehended by operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka on January 7, 2026, following weeks of investigation into the killing, which occurred in December 2025. According to the police, the arrest followed credible intelligence and sustained investigative efforts aimed at uncovering the true circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
In a statement issued by the Anambra State Police Command, authorities dismissed reports circulating in some quarters that the murder was committed by individuals to whom the suspect was indebted.
