Maiduguri, Borno State — Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have intensified offensive operations against Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists across Borno State, recording notable gains in sustained clearance operations, fighting patrols and blocking actions designed to dismantle insurgent networks and logistics infrastructure.

In a statement released on 11 January 2026, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, detailed the progress of multi‑axis operations that have systematically degraded the operational capacity of extremist elements in the North‑East theatre.

According to the military communique, coordinated pressure under Operation DESERT SANITY V along the Azir–Wajiroko axis on 10 January 2026 compelled 11 terrorists to surrender to troops, handing over their AK‑47 rifles and assorted ammunition. The mass surrender reflects the cumulative impact of ongoing offensive pressure in denying militants freedom of movement and safe havens. Weapons and ammunition recovered from the defectors are now in military custody for further intelligence exploitation and forensic analysis.

Operation HADIN KAI troops had earlier, on 9 January 2026, executed extensive clearance operations in the Bulaagalda cluster, targeting active insurgent enclaves and terror camps identified as strongholds for extremist activities. The offensive resulted in the destruction of several key camps and life‑support structures, including those at Dagumba, Bonne, Yaganari, Gosuri and Umchile, as well as the dismantling of the notorious Abu Nazir and Abu Ahmed camps. Troops seized a range of insurgent materials including weapons, magazines and terrorist flags, further disrupting extremist morale and logistics.

Offensive thrusts into the Yale and Bula Gaida areas also yielded tangible results as terrorists fled in the face of sustained military pressure, allowing troops to destroy additional logistics facilities and recover weapons, ammunition and a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) previously used by insurgent cells to conduct attacks and defend their positions.

In a related engagement based on credible intelligence, troops encountered JAS/ISWAP fighters between Sojiri and Kayamla villages, leading to the neutralisation of eight terrorists and the recovery of several AK‑47 rifles. The encounter underscores the effectiveness of intelligence‑driven patrols in tightening the noose around militant groups who continue to exploit remote corridors for transit and operations.

Additionally, the force reported the arrest of two suspected terrorist logistics collaborators in Gubio Local Government Area, accused of supplying material support and facilitation to terror cells in the region. These arrests mark significant progress in disrupting supply chains that have historically underpinned extremist mobility and resilience.

The military reiterated that sustained pressure on terrorist elements remains central to national security strategy, with operations designed to degrade the capacity of insurgent networks while encouraging defections and attrition within their ranks. The recent wave of surrenders, seizures and destruction of infrastructure is presented as evidence of the positive impact of coordinated air and ground operations under HADIN KAI’s operational framework.

Since its inception, Operation HADIN KAI has adopted a multifaceted approach, combining offensive engagements with intelligence, civil‑military cooperation and tactical partnership with local communities to erode extremist influence and create conditions conducive to lasting peace. The military statement emphasised that success would be consolidated through continued operations, enhanced intelligence gathering and proactive engagement with community stakeholders to deny insurgents sanctuary.

The developments come as part of broader efforts by the Nigerian Armed Forces and allied security services to restore stability across Borno State and the wider North‑East region, which has borne the brunt of violence linked to Boko Haram/ISWAP over the past decade. The military has repeatedly emphasised that the insurgency, while significantly degraded, remains a security priority requiring sustained commitment and adaptive operational tactics.

Despite repeated claims by extremists of regrouping efforts, the military’s operational tempo and tactical gains — illustrated by the surrender of multiple fighters, the neutralisation of hostile elements, the destruction of key camps and the arrest of logistics collaborators — reinforce official assertions that security operations are progressively dismantling insurgent capabilities. Authorities have assured citizens that these efforts are aimed at restoring lasting peace and security for communities long affected by violence and displacement.

As Operation HADIN KAI continues its offensive, troops maintain vigilant posture across key theatres of operations, while coordination with other security agencies ensures that gains are protected and the threat of violent extremist resurgence is systematically countered.
