The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Monday Agbonika, has ordered an immediate investigation into a viral video that appears to show police officers acting with incivility toward a civilian.
According to a press release issued on Thursday, 30 April 2026, the officers involved in the video have been identified, and disciplinary procedures have already commenced in line with the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
CP Agbonika convened an emergency strategic meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Heads of Departments, and Commanders of Tactical Teams across the state.
During the meeting, the police commissioner lectured senior officers on the lawful use of force, Force Order 237, civility in public interactions, respect for citizens’ fundamental human rights, and the importance of professionalism at all times.
The statement said he directed that these lessons be immediately cascaded to all officers and men, stressing that adherence to the Force’s rules of engagement is non‑negotiable. He also warned that any supervisory officer who permits misconduct under his command will be held vicariously liable.
