LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old suspected armed robber and cultist, Odeshola Afeez, following intelligence reports that he was harassing residents and causing panic within a Lagos community. The suspect was apprehended in the Ebute Metta area of the state on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, after police operatives responded swiftly to a distress call from members of the public.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that officers deployed to the scene arrested Afeez on suspicion of being a notorious cultist and armed robber. A subsequent search of the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, live cartridges, and local charms. Preliminary investigations revealed that Afeez had allegedly been terrorising residents and engaging in activities capable of disrupting public order.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the officers involved for their prompt response and professionalism. He reaffirmed the command's steadfast dedication to fighting cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes in the state, and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing the police with reliable and timely information.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Niger State Police Debunks False Reports Of School Attacks

In a related development, the Niger State Police Command has refuted reports alleging that schools in Bosso, Kpakungu, Sabon-Wuse, and Lambata areas were attacked by hoodlums, describing the claims as false and misleading. The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated in a release on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, that a thorough investigation was conducted.

According to the police, operatives visited all the schools mentioned in the said areas and found no evidence of any attack. “The command hereby states categorically that, having visited all the schools mentioned in the said areas, there was no such attack in any of the schools within the state,” Abiodun said. He urged the public to ignore the misinformation, which he noted likely stemmed from troublemakers aiming to incite panic and fear within the community and school settings.

Abiodun also confirmed that an investigation has been launched to identify the source of the false report and apprehend those responsible for spreading it. Earlier, the Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, had directed divisional police officers to collaborate closely with school administrators as part of school protection initiatives to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the surrounding community.
