Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command, Idiroko Division, have arrested two suspects and recovered a stolen 28-seater Toyota Coaster bus, which was about to be smuggled into the Republic of Benin. The suspects, Seun Lawal, 46, and Ademola Oriyomi, 38, were intercepted around 11:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Babaloke area of Idiroko.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Adejuwon Ariyo, acted on credible intelligence that the suspects had positioned the bus at a border community, planning to move it across the international border under false pretences. Officers mobilised to the scene and, in a tactical response, shot out one of the tyres to immobilise the vehicle and prevent its escape. Both suspects were arrested, and the bus was recovered.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Seun Lawal, a driver, had conspired with his guarantor, Ademola Oriyomi, to steal the vehicle from Lagos and sell it in Benin Republic. The suspects reportedly planned to use the proceeds to relocate after the illegal transaction.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their vigilance and tactical precision. The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to border security and the fight against cross‑border vehicle theft.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue to uncover possible links to wider criminal networks.
For emergencies, residents may contact the command’s toll‑free Gateway Shield line, 0800 000 9111, or other emergency numbers.
