Bwari, FCT – The serene atmosphere of the Bwari community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was shattered on Saturday, June 13, 2026, following the gruesome discovery of a woman’s decapitated body inside an uncompleted building. The headless remains, believed to be that of a middle‑aged woman, were found in an advanced state of decomposition, sending shockwaves through the neighbourhood and heightening fears over the escalating security crisis in the nation’s capital.
Residents of the community made the horrific discovery after a strong, foul odour emanating from the abandoned structure prompted them to investigate. According to multiple reports, a blanket believed to have been used to transport the body, along with ropes found around the remains, suggested that the victim’s hands and legs might have been tied before she was killed. “The offensive smell coming from the building attracted the attention of people living nearby. When we entered the building, we found the woman’s body without her head,” a resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Daily Trust.
Another resident alleged that the woman may have been overpowered before she was killed, noting that bruises observed on her hands and legs could indicate she struggled with her attackers. Bloodstains were visible inside one of the rooms, and a blood‑soaked blanket was also recovered from the scene. The resident added that the body had swollen considerably, suggesting that the victim might have died several days earlier. Describing the incident as horrifying, he expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in the area. “It was terrible. Insecurity is getting out of hand. We are worried about the safety of our families and children,” he said.
Police officers from the Bwari Divisional Police Headquarters were alerted to the scene and promptly evacuated the remains. An officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly, confirmed that the division received a distress call from a resident on Saturday afternoon informing them of the discovery. The body was taken to the Bwari General Hospital, where it is being preserved pending identification and an autopsy. Investigations have been launched to establish the identity of the victim and the circumstances surrounding her death, the police said.
The gruesome killing has reignited public outrage and renewed calls for improved security in the FCT, which has witnessed a surge in violent crimes, including banditry, kidnapping, and ritual killings, in recent months. The Bwari area council, in particular, has been a hotspot for criminal activities, with several reported cases of abductions and attacks on communities.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, had not issued a statement on the incident at the time of this report. However, the police have assured residents that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further occurrences.
As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, with many calling for increased police patrols and swift justice for the unknown victim. The body of the deceased lies at the Bwari General Hospital mortuary, awaiting identification and burial by her family.
