Edo Queens have been officially crowned champions of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership after a determined goalless draw against defending champions Bayelsa Queens on the final matchday of the Super Six playoffs at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday, June 14, 2026. The Benin‑based side required only a point from the decisive fixture to secure the title, while Bayelsa Queens needed an outright victory. Edo Queens executed their game plan with discipline, absorbing pressure in a tightly contested encounter, and the result sealed their second NWFL crown.

The 0‑0 stalemate meant Edo Queens finished the Super Six at the top of the standings with 10 points from five games, two points clear of second‑placed Bayelsa Queens. Nasarawa Amazons completed the top three with eight points, while Abia Angels ended their debut campaign in fourth, FC Robo Queens placed fifth, and hosts Rivers Angels finished sixth. The three‑match final day saw Nasarawa Amazons and Rivers Angels also play out a goalless draw, while FC Robo and Abia Angels fought to a 1‑1 draw. Edo Queens recorded three wins, one draw, and one defeat during the tournament. They had bounced back from a 1‑0 opening loss to Nasarawa Amazons, then thrashed FC Robo 4‑1, hammered Abia Angels 6‑2, and secured a hard‑fought 2‑1 victory over Rivers Angels before the title‑deciding draw.

Head coach Moses Aduku praised his players for their resilience and determination. “It has been a rewarding season for us after winning the trophy,” Aduku told The PUNCH. “Despite losing the first game, they picked themselves up and did Edo proud. I commend them.” Aduku further etched his name in the competition’s history, becoming the first manager to win three NWFL Premiership titles in six seasons. He previously guided Bayelsa Queens to the title in 2022 before leading Edo Queens to triumphs in 2024 and 2026.

The individual accolades saw Atume Doosuur of Edo Queens and Abasiofon Uwah of Rivers Angels share the Golden Boot with 13 goals each. Chioma Moses of Edo Queens was also instrumental, scoring 11 goals. FC Robo’s Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was named Player of the Season, while Abia Angels’ Fatima Oloko claimed Goalkeeper of the Season. Rivers Angels received the Fair Play Prize.

The title victory also confirms Edo Queens as Nigeria’s representative at the WAFU‑B Women’s Champions League qualifiers, scheduled to take place in Burkina Faso from 13 August to 5 September, where they will aim to secure a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League and a potential pathway to the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.

The Super Six finals were attended by several dignitaries, including Aisha Falode (NFF board member), former NFF board member Barr. Chris Green, Bayelsa Deputy Governor Peter Akor, Bayelsa Sports Commissioner Daniel Igali, Edo State Sports Commission Chairman Desmond Enabulele, NFF Director of Competitions Ruth David, and Bendel Insurance Chairman Jarrett Tenebe. Enabulele dedicated the victory to Governor Monday Okpebholo for his unwavering support and commitment to sports development in the state. “This victory is beyond winning the trophy; it is about discovering and nurturing talents for the benefit of the state,” he told The PUNCH.

With the 2025/26 NWFL season now concluded, Edo Queens join Bayelsa Queens as the only clubs to have won the league twice within the last six seasons. Their triumph reaffirms their status as one of the dominant forces in Nigerian women’s football.
