Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Monday swore in Dr. (Mrs.) Adenike Ayobami Fasina as the new Head of Service, alongside Dr. Lateef Idowu Oyeleke and Barr. Ayobami Oluwaseun Ojo as commissioners, in a ceremony that also featured a minor cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening governance and service delivery. The event was held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

Dr. Fasina, who becomes the 19th Head of Service and the seventh woman to occupy the position, takes over from the immediate past Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, mni. Governor Makinde noted that her appointment not only adheres to the administration's 35 per cent affirmative action policy for women’s inclusion in governance but also marks a significant milestone for the Ibarapa geopolitical zone, which had no permanent secretary when he assumed office in 2019.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Makinde charged the new appointees to see their elevation as a call to greater service and responsibility. He emphasized that the appointments were based on merit, competence, and a distinguished track record of service to the state, rather than on sentiments or political considerations. “Your appointments are a call to greater service and responsibility. I expect you to contribute your quota towards ensuring that this administration continues to deliver on its promises to the people of Oyo State until the expiration of its tenure,” the governor stated.

Following the swearing-in, Governor Makinde immediately assigned portfolios to the new commissioners. Dr. Lateef Idowu Oyeleke was deployed to the Ministry of Special Duties, while Barr. Ayobami Ojo will now oversee the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning. As part of the cabinet reshuffle, the former Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaja Faosat Joke Sanni, was redeployed to the Ministry of Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry.

The governor also used the occasion to reassure the public of his administration's commitment to security. He reiterated his resolve to ensure the safe return of pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire Local Government Area, confirming that the government is actively working with security agencies. Governor Makinde also urged residents to remain vigilant and use the state's toll-free emergency number, 615, to report any suspicious activities.
