The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results of the 2026 mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), bringing the examination cycle to a close and paving the way for the commencement of candidate ranking and the next phase of admissions into tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The announcement was made on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, in a statement that also confirmed that candidates who sat for the mop-up exercise can now access their scores through the board’s approved result-checking channels.
The mop-up examination was conducted on Saturday, June 13, 2026, as a final opportunity for candidates who were biometrically verified for the main UTME but were unable to sit the exam due to technical glitches, biometric verification challenges, or other disruptions recorded at accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the country. The main 2026 UTME was held between April 16 and April 25, 2026, at about 966 CBT centres nationwide. However, technical challenges at some centres prevented a number of candidates from participating in the exercise, prompting the board to organise a supplementary examination to ensure that affected candidates were not denied the opportunity to participate in the admission process.
According to Benjamin, with the successful conclusion of the mop-up exercise and the release of the results, the board will immediately begin ranking candidates ahead of the 2026 admission process. “Following the successful conclusion of the mop-up exercise and the release of the results, the Board will commence the ranking of candidates. Thereafter, the printing of results for admission purposes is expected to begin before the weekend,” he said. The ranking of candidates is a critical stage in the admission process, helping institutions determine eligibility for placement based on performance and programme requirements.
Dr. Fabian Benjamin also disclosed that the board is already making preparations for admission documentation, while candidates who participated in the mop-up examination can check their results through the board’s established result-checking channels. He advised that candidates should rely only on official JAMB platforms for admission decisions and score verification to avoid falling victim to scams. According to the board, some results are being withheld pending investigations into suspected examination malpractice and verification procedures, but the majority of candidates who sat for the mop-up exercise can now access their scores.
JAMB, in its statement, expressed appreciation to candidates, parents, and other stakeholders for their patience and cooperation throughout the examination period, particularly during the mop-up exercise organised to address lingering challenges encountered during the main UTME exercise. The board also reiterated that the mop-up examination was the final opportunity for eligible candidates to sit the 2026 UTME, warning that no further supplementary examination would be conducted this year. “There will be no further examination after this exercise,” the board stated.
The release of the mop-up results effectively marks the completion of the 2026 UTME examination cycle, shifting focus to the admission process, where institutions across the country will begin considering eligible candidates based on merit rankings and established admission guidelines. With the release of the mop-up results, attention is now expected to shift to admission considerations by tertiary institutions across the country, as the board continues to monitor its official communication channels for further updates regarding admission procedures and result printing.
