The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has intensified its crackdown on open grazing, impounding six cows found roaming parts of Ibadan in violation of the state's livestock control regulations. The operation, carried out on Thursday, June 18, 2026, targeted areas where cattle were seen grazing openly, posing risks to public safety and contravening existing laws.
In a statement issued by the Chairperson of the Authority, retired Justice Aderonke Aderemi, five cows were seized during a routine monitoring exercise around Old Ife Road, Alakia, and Elebu Idi Ahun in Ido Local Government Area. The Authority stated that the animals were found grazing openly, an act that contravenes Oyo State's laws on open grazing and livestock management. They were immediately impounded by the enforcement team.
In a separate operation carried out on the same day, officials responded to reports of cattle roaming along the busy Mokola highway in Ibadan. Upon arrival, three cows were spotted on the road, posing a danger to motorists and residents. One cow was immediately impounded while the others fled, according to the statement.
OYRLEA said the operation forms part of its ongoing efforts to enforce livestock management regulations, curb open grazing, and prevent incidents that could threaten public safety or disrupt community peace. The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining environmental order, protecting residents, and ensuring full compliance with the laws of Oyo State.
