The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Rabiu Garba Aiki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Zuru State Constituency by-election for the Kebbi State House of Assembly, securing a landslide victory over his Labour Party (LP) rival in a poll that recorded significantly low voter turnout across the constituency. The result was announced at the collation centre in Zuru Local Government Area on Saturday, June 20, 2026, by the Collation Officer and Returning Officer, Professor Muhammad Bashar Danladi of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi.
According to the official results declared by INEC, Rabiu Garba Aiki polled 4,871 votes to defeat his closest rival, Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the Labour Party, who secured 168 votes. Professor Danladi disclosed that the constituency had 109,385 registered voters, while only 5,156 voters were accredited for the election. He added that 5,055 valid votes were cast, while 95 votes were rejected. Ward‑by‑ward results showed the APC maintaining a commanding lead across all 10 wards in the constituency. In Rafin Zuru Ward, the APC polled 1,042 votes against the LP's 63; in Bedi Ward, the APC secured 830 votes compared to the LP's 34; and in Senchi Ward, the APC garnered 659 votes against the LP's 16.
The by-election was conducted across polling units in Zuru Local Government Area following the vacancy created by the death of the former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru. Despite the peaceful conduct of the exercise, voter turnout remained low across most polling units, with accredited voters representing only a small fraction of the total registered voters in the constituency. The APC had taken an early lead during the collation process, maintaining a clear lead throughout. The election was initially cleared for only two parties—the APC and the Labour Party—by INEC ahead of the poll.
With the declaration, the APC has retained the Zuru State Constituency seat in the Kebbi State House of Assembly.
