West Africa’s largest carrier, Air Peace, has secured regulatory approval from Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) to operate scheduled international flights to and from the South American nation, a development that dramatically cuts travel time between Nigeria and Brazil from nearly two days to approximately seven hours on a direct flight. The approval, contained in ANAC Ordinance No. 19.449/2026, authorises the airline to operate regular passenger, cargo and mail services between Brazil and destinations across its expanding international network, marking another major milestone in the airline’s quest to establish itself as a global aviation brand.

The Brazilian authorisation is expected to pave the way for direct air connectivity between Nigeria and Brazil by a Nigerian carrier, a move considered significant for strengthening economic, cultural and diplomatic relations between both countries. Industry stakeholders have long regarded the absence of direct connectivity between the two nations as a missing gap in their historical and economic relationship. The proposed Brazil operations are expected to stimulate tourism, trade, investment and people-to-people interactions while opening up fresh opportunities for businesses and cultural exchanges. Beyond passenger movement, the direct air service is also projected to enhance cargo transportation and deepen commercial cooperation between Nigeria, Brazil and the wider South American region, particularly in agriculture, energy, manufacturing and technology exchange.

The Brazilian approval comes amid an aggressive expansion programme by Air Peace, which is intensifying efforts to secure landing rights in several major international markets. The airline has already applied to aviation authorities in Canada and the United States for approvals to launch scheduled operations into Toronto and New York, respectively. It is also advancing plans to resume operations to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Guangzhou, China, while finalising arrangements for three weekly flights to Manchester in the United Kingdom. In addition, Air Peace recently unveiled plans to commence flights to Libreville in Gabon, Conakry in Guinea, Bamako in Mali and Douala in Cameroon from August 1, further consolidating its position as Nigeria’s leading international airline.

The carrier’s current international network already spans several destinations across Europe, the Caribbean and West Africa, including London in the United Kingdom; Barbados in the Caribbean; and Accra in Ghana, Freetown in Sierra Leone, Dakar in Senegal, Banjul in The Gambia, Monrovia in Liberia, and Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire. Observers say the addition of Brazil to the airline’s growing route network represents a major leap in Air Peace’s transformation from a regional operator into an intercontinental carrier. With several strategic destinations on the horizon, including North America, China and the Middle East, the airline believes it is steadily advancing towards its ambition of becoming Africa’s preferred airline and a globally recognised aviation brand.
