UMUAHIA, Nigeria – The Abia State Police Command has impounded 15 vehicles and arrested 15 suspects in a statewide enforcement operation against unregistered vehicles and those bearing obscured, defaced, altered or unlawfully covered registration number plates, the command announced on Saturday, June 20, 2026. The operation, which is in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety and deny criminal elements opportunities to exploit vehicle identification loopholes.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, nine cases have already been charged to court, while other related cases under investigation will be concluded and diligently prosecuted. The enforcement drive is part of the command's broader public safety initiative aimed at enhancing security across the state.
The Commissioner of Police commended the operational discipline of officers involved in the exercise and reiterated that the enforcement is aimed at strengthening public safety, improving crime prevention, and denying criminal elements opportunities to exploit vehicle identification loopholes. He assured members of the public that all arrested suspects will be treated in line with constitutional provisions and that the command remains committed to ensuring transparency, professionalism, and respect for the rule of law throughout the exercise.
Members of the public were encouraged to report any complaints of unprofessional conduct through the command's Complaint Response Unit via 09031593827 or 08035401645. Abians were once again advised to ensure full compliance with vehicle registration laws and proper display of number plates, as enforcement operations remain ongoing across the state.
The Abia State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to working with residents to keep the state safe and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the collective effort to maintain security and public order.
