The Department of State Services (DSS) has summoned the management of Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) to an emergency meeting amid rising tensions over an alleged breach of a recently signed labour agreement.
According to reports, the meeting is scheduled for 3:00 pm on Friday at DSS Headquarters in Abuja. Representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other key stakeholders are also expected to attend.
The summons comes shortly after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 9 between the Dangote Group and NUPENG, which granted workers the freedom to join any union of their choice. The agreement was witnessed by the NLC, Trade Union Congress (TUC), government ministers, and other notable officials.
Details of the alleged breach have not been disclosed, but the DSS intervention underscores the seriousness of the dispute and the government’s commitment to ensuring industrial harmony within the petroleum sector.
