In a decisive move to strengthen accountability and combat corruption, the Federal Ministry of Transportation officially inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) on Tuesday, 26th July 2025, in Abuja, in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Speaking at the ceremony, Musa Ibrahim, Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary (DOOPS), represented by Dr. Vivian Nwosu, Director of Special Duties, emphasized that the launch reflects the Ministry’s commitment to conducting government business with integrity, fairness, and transparency.
“The ACTU Unit is designed to promote compliance and prevent corruption within our Ministry and its agencies. It will champion integrity, ensure effective implementation of policies, and identify potential risks,” Ibrahim stated. He added that the unit would implement anti-corruption strategies, provide staff awareness programs, investigate potential incidents, and collaborate with stakeholders to foster a culture of accountability.
Representing the ICPC Chairman, Mr. Jude Okoye highlighted that the ACTU will serve as an internal mechanism to identify systemic weaknesses, ensure compliance with ethical standards, and support the Ministry in evolving a world-class, safe, and efficient transportation system positioning Nigeria as a regional hub.
The ACTU’s responsibilities include periodic staff training on anti-corruption, examining organizational systems prone to corruption, conducting risk assessments, and proposing actionable solutions. Okoye clarified that the unit complements management under the Permanent Secretary’s oversight without replacing existing structures.
Newly appointed ACTU Chairman, Mr. Nasiru Abubakar, pledged to lead with transparency, teamwork, and uphold the unit’s mission of integrity, calling for the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure success.
