
The Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has held a high-level engagement with the President of the National Council of Switzerland, H.E. Maja Riniker, and the President of the Council of States, H.E. Andrea Caroni, alongside their delegation.
The discussions, which also included Switzerland’s Ambassador to the WTO, H.E. Amb Bollinger, centered on global tariff and trade challenges, the repositioning of the WTO, and the ongoing reform of the multilateral trading system.
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala also highlighted the significance of the WTO’s Fisheries Subsidies Agreement, which is set to enter into force on Monday, September 15. She expressed gratitude to Switzerland for being the first member to ratify the agreement, describing the country’s role as a model of leadership and commitment to global trade reform.
She described the meeting as an important opportunity to strengthen collaboration and reaffirm support for the WTO’s mission in promoting fair and rules-based global trade.
