In a move to ensure stability and continuity in Ijebuland, Ogun State Governor, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, MFR, convened with the Awujale Chiefs in Council in Iperu to discuss the appointment of a new Awujale following the passing of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona on July 13, 2025, after a celebrated reign exceeding 65 years.

During the meeting, Governor Abiodun emphasized the critical need to prevent a leadership vacuum on the throne, urging the kingmakers to conduct a transparent, fair, and peaceful selection process. He called for strict adherence to the customs, traditions, and legal frameworks governing the stool of the Awujale, stressing that all eligible candidates must be afforded equal opportunity to participate.

The Governor expressed satisfaction with the unity and commitment shown by the Awujale Chiefs in Council and reaffirmed confidence in their integrity and judgment. He assured the council that the state government will fully support the outcome of their deliberations, regardless of which candidate emerges, highlighting a shared dedication to sustaining peace, harmony, and development throughout Ijebuland and Ogun State.

The meeting marks a significant step in reinforcing traditional governance structures while maintaining civic stability, ensuring that the legacy of Oba Adetona is honored through a smooth and respectful transition.
