The Lagos State Government, through the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), has distributed mobile devices to teachers across the state’s six educational districts, as part of efforts to enhance teaching efficiency and promote digital learning.
The presentation ceremony was attended by key education officials, including Permanent Secretaries and Tutor-Generals from the districts. Princess Adebopo-Ismail Oyekan, Permanent Secretary of TESCOM, speaking on behalf of the Chairman, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, highlighted the significance of the initiative in modernising classroom instruction and equipping teachers with tools to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) for more interactive and engaging lessons.
According to Oyekan, the integration of technology into teaching will make lessons more accessible, interactive, and aligned with 21st-century educational standards. She stressed that the mobile devices will not only improve instructional delivery but also facilitate continuous professional development, allowing teachers to learn, unlearn, and relearn as the digital education landscape evolves.
The devices are designed to give teachers access to vast information resources, enable personalised learning, enhance teacher-student engagement, foster collaboration, and strengthen digital literacy skills, preparing both educators and students for a technology-driven world.
Officials at the ceremony expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and TESCOM for the initiative, describing it as a pioneering step toward transforming education in Lagos. They noted that the move would empower teachers to adopt innovative teaching methods and better engage students, contributing to a technology-enabled learning environment across the state.
The initiative forms part of Lagos State’s broader commitment to promoting quality education, integrating modern technology into classrooms, and equipping teachers with the necessary tools to meet the demands of contemporary education.
