The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) recently organised an environmental sensitisation workshop aimed at promoting sustainability and eco-consciousness among young learners. The event, themed “Little Green Hands: Creative Gardening for Kids”, took place on Wednesday at the Dr. Abayomi Finnih Park, Oregun, attracting students from Opebi Junior and Senior High School and Oregun Junior and Senior High School.

The interactive session combined hands-on activities with practical lessons on nature and environmental protection. Students were taught about the benefits of trees, the importance of maintaining green spaces, and the impact of climate change on urban communities. The program was designed to cultivate an early sense of responsibility towards the environment and promote sustainable living practices.

Participants engaged in creative gardening exercises, learning how to plant and care for trees while understanding their role in improving air quality, reducing soil erosion, providing shade, and beautifying the urban landscape. The activities encouraged teamwork, creativity, and a personal connection to environmental stewardship.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the students expressed gratitude to LASPARK and the Lagos State Government, describing the initiative as both enlightening and inspiring. They highlighted that the program had deepened their appreciation of the critical role trees and green spaces play in enhancing urban life and combating environmental challenges.

The young participants also commended LASPARK for its consistent advocacy for environmental protection and for providing platforms that nurture future generations of eco-champions. By targeting children, the Agency aims to instil lasting values of sustainability, ensuring that Lagos continues to grow as a greener, healthier, and more environmentally conscious city.

The workshop forms part of LASPARK’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental awareness and engage communities in meaningful conservation activities, reinforcing the Agency’s commitment to creating a sustainable and eco-friendly Lagos.
