The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its unwavering commitment to strengthening institutional capacity in combating cybercrime and fostering a safer digital environment. This commitment was underscored through the active participation of the Nigeria Police Force – National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in the Meta Two-Day Summit on Online Safety, themed “The Future of Online Safety: Combating Evolving Threats,” recently held in Abuja.
The summit brought together law enforcement agencies, technology companies, and policymakers to discuss collaborative strategies in addressing the rising wave of online threats and the complex nature of cybercrime in the digital age.
Officers of the NPF-NCCC, who represented the Nigeria Police Force at the event, engaged in extensive sessions that enhanced their technical expertise in digital forensics, intelligence-led investigations, and Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT). They also explored new approaches for uncovering and dismantling transnational cybercrime syndicates and strengthening proactive online safety mechanisms.
The sessions emphasized inter-agency cooperation and the importance of joint efforts among law enforcement, tech companies, and civil society organizations in building digital trust, protecting users, and promoting responsible technology use across Nigeria.
In a statement, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to continued partnership with Meta and other global technology stakeholders. He described such collaborations as vital to addressing cross-border cyber threats and advancing the Force’s long-term vision of technology-driven, intelligence-led policing.
“Cybercrime continues to evolve rapidly, and no institution can fight it alone. Through strong partnerships and capacity development, we are building a resilient policing framework that safeguards Nigerians in the digital space,” the IGP stated.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, anipr, mipra, noted that the NPF-NCCC remains at the forefront of Nigeria’s fight against cybercrime, leveraging innovation and strategic alliances to protect individuals, institutions, and national infrastructure from digital threats.
