Kano State is currently hosting a two-day visit by a delegation from Energy China Company, one of China’s leading electricity firms, alongside representatives from the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF). The visit is aimed at engaging key power stakeholders and exploring opportunities for collaboration in the energy sector.
The delegation was warmly received by the Honourable Commissioner of Power and Renewable Energy, Engr. Dr. Gaddafi Sani Shehu, together with officials from KHEDCO and REB. Dr. Shehu explained that the team would assess Kano’s electricity demand, power supply, and electricity development plans, as part of efforts to adopt best practices and identify potential partnerships.
Expressing excitement about the visit, Dr. Shehu said it provided Kano State with a platform to showcase progress in the energy sector while learning from local and international partners. He stated:
"We are delighted to host the Nigerian Governors' Forum and the Energy China company. This visit is a testament to our commitment to improving power supply and exploring renewable energy opportunities in Kano State as itemized in His Excellency Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf, The Executive Governor of Kano State blueprint."
He added:
"We look forward to fruitful discussions and potential partnerships that will benefit our state and its people."
The visit is expected to strengthen collaboration and knowledge-sharing between Kano State and other energy stakeholders, with the ultimate goal of improving living standards for residents.
Currently chaired by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, the NGF is focused on promoting cooperation among Nigeria’s governors, particularly in areas such as power, energy, health, and infrastructure development. Observers believe this engagement aligns with the forum’s broader mandate of driving inter-state development and fostering strategic partnerships.
