A fresh wave of violence hit Southern Kaduna on Monday as armed bandits invaded Kushe Gugdu village in Kagarko Local Government Area, abducting a Catholic priest and several residents while killing one person during the attack.
The assailants reportedly stormed the quiet community before dawn, heading straight for St. Stephen Parish, where they seized the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Bobbo Paschal. According to the Kaduna Catholic Archdiocese, the attackers broke into the parish house and whisked away the priest to an unknown destination.
Residents say the gunmen simultaneously raided nearby homes, abducting multiple villagers in a coordinated operation that lasted several minutes. During the attack, the brother of one of the kidnapped victims was shot dead.
The incident adds to the long-running security crisis affecting several parts of Kaduna State, where communities continue to face repeated threats from armed criminal groups. Monday’s abduction has sparked renewed fear and concern among residents, particularly within the Christian community.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on rescue efforts, but local security volunteers say search operations are underway.
The attack reinforces growing calls for stronger security intervention in rural communities and better protection for clergy and residents who continue to face targeted assaults across the region.
