President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday hosted the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, marking a renewed push to strengthen Nigeria–UK relations with a focus on youth development, education, and economic cooperation.

The visit, accompanied by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Sir Richard Montgomery, centered on expanding joint initiatives between both nations. Prince Edward, who is in Nigeria as part of his global engagements for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, discussed opportunities to scale programmes that empower young people through skills, innovation, and environmental responsibility.

President Tinubu, while welcoming the Duke, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening its long-standing diplomatic relationship with the United Kingdom. He expressed appreciation for existing British support in governance reforms, economic development efforts, and human capital growth. The President stressed that such cooperation must continue—especially in areas that uplift young Nigerians and contribute to sustainable national development.

Also present at the meeting was the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, who highlighted the administration’s ongoing economic reforms. Edun noted that Nigeria is open to foreign partnerships that support growth, job creation, and innovation.

Monday’s engagement underscored the strong historical ties between Nigeria and the UK, with both sides optimistic about expanding collaboration in youth empowerment, education, and broader developmental projects.
