The Nigerian Army has arrested two serving soldiers after they were seen providing security at the wedding of popular TikTok personalities Peller and Jarvis in Lagos without official authorisation.
The soldiers, identified as Privates Onasanya Ifeoluwa and Ukpai Onyinyechi, are attached to the Nigerian Army Medical Services and Hospital in Obalende, Lagos. They were taken into custody after videos from the wedding went viral on social media, showing them in military uniform escorting guests and performing security duties.
According to the Nigerian Army, the arrests were made because serving military personnel are not permitted to undertake private security duties or be deployed to civilian events without proper military approval. The Army is investigating whether the soldiers violated military regulations by acting outside their official responsibilities.
Military authorities stressed that the investigation is focused on determining who authorised the deployment, whether the soldiers acted on their own, and whether disciplinary action should follow if military rules were breached.
The incident has generated widespread public discussion about the appropriate use of military personnel and uniforms at private social events. Many Nigerians have questioned whether serving soldiers should be seen providing security at celebrity functions, while others have called for strict enforcement of military discipline and professionalism.
The Nigerian Army has not accused Peller, Jarvis, or the organisers of the wedding of any wrongdoing. At this stage, the investigation concerns only the conduct of the two soldiers and whether they acted contrary to military regulations.
The Army says the outcome of its investigation will determine whether further disciplinary measures will be taken against the personnel involved.
