The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed 12 establishments in the Ijora Causeway and Apapa areas of the state for persistent violations of environmental regulations despite repeated warnings, abatement notices, and several opportunities to comply with the agency's directives. The enforcement exercise was carried out on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, according to a statement posted on the agency's official X account on Thursday, August 6.
The affected businesses were found to have contravened various environmental regulations and failed to comply with corrective measures earlier issued by LASEPA. The sealed establishments include Helmar Building Materials, located at 8 Ijora Causeway, Ijora; Laprivad Nigeria Ltd, Causeway behind Funky Yetty, Ijora; Innocast Nigeria Ltd, Saka Alao Street, Apapa; Body Language Shipping & Cargo, Liverpool Road, Apapa; and Laodo Control Jetty, Creek Road, Apapa. Others sealed include Adaps Nigeria Ltd, Solomon Agbontan Road, Apapa; Kehdi Equipments Ltd, Burma Road, Apapa; Bulus Hotel, Kofo Abayomi Street, Apapa; Park Inn Hotel, Caulcrick Road, Apapa; Mandarin Supermarket, Warehouse Road, Apapa; Hamada Enterprises, Warehouse Road, Apapa; and Infinity Pirelli Tyres, also on Warehouse Road, Apapa.
The enforcement action targeted businesses operating in the Ijora Causeway and Apapa areas, two of Lagos State's most commercially vibrant and industrial zones. The affected establishments were found to have persistently violated environmental regulations despite repeated warnings, abatement notices, and several opportunities to comply with the agency's directives, according to LASEPA.
Speaking on the enforcement exercise, the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr Babatunde Ajayi, reaffirmed the agency's commitment to protecting public health and preserving the environment through regular monitoring, compliance enforcement, and implementation of environmental regulations across Lagos State. "Environmental compliance remains a collective responsibility," Ajayi stated, stressing that the agency would continue to intensify enforcement actions against individuals, businesses, and corporate organisations whose activities pose risks to the environment and public wellbeing. He urged business owners, facility operators, and residents to adopt environmentally responsible practices, obtain the necessary approvals, comply with regulatory requirements, and support LASEPA's efforts to build a cleaner, healthier, and pollution-free Lagos.
The latest enforcement action is part of LASEPA's ongoing crackdown on environmental violations across the state. In recent weeks, the agency has intensified its enforcement operations, sealing businesses for various infractions including noise pollution, air pollution, unlawful discharge of untreated effluent into public drains, obstruction of official duties, and persistent non-compliance with regulatory directives. The agency has repeatedly warned that it will not hesitate to shut down establishments that endanger public health through environmental violations. As Lagos continues to grow as Nigeria's commercial and industrial hub, the balance between economic development and environmental protection remains a critical challenge, and LASEPA's latest action demonstrates the state government's willingness to take tough decisions to safeguard public health and ensure that economic growth does not come at the expense of environmental sustainability.
