Isaac Fayose has strongly criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing the anti-graft agency of selective enforcement and alleging that it ignored vote-buying during the Ekiti State governorship election.
Speaking in a video, Fayose described the EFCC's decision to freeze the bank accounts of the Osun State Government as "a joke," arguing that the action unfairly affects millions of innocent residents. He expressed concern that the freezing of the state's accounts could disrupt governance and public services for an estimated four million people.
According to him, EFCC operatives were present during the Ekiti State election and allegedly witnessed incidents of vote buying but failed to take any action against those involved. He questioned why the commission did not take similar measures against Ekiti State if it was genuinely committed to fighting electoral corruption.
Fayose also criticised Nigerians for remaining silent, claiming that public inaction has encouraged what he described as growing impunity within the country's institutions.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general election, Fayose claimed that the presidential poll would amount to "a coronation," suggesting that the outcome had already been predetermined. He argued that ordinary Nigerians would have little influence over the process unless there was greater public engagement and accountability.
He further alleged that the EFCC is working in the interest of the Federal Government rather than acting as an independent anti-corruption agency. Fayose also claimed that there were plans to manipulate the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
The EFCC has not publicly responded to Fayose's allegations. His remarks remain his personal claims, and no evidence was provided to substantiate the allegations.
