Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6th Brigade, working under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) and Operation Zafin Wuta, have arrested a suspected kidnapper in Wukari Local Government Area, Taraba State.

The suspect, Umar Musa Geyi, was caught on Saturday in the Jandei–Kulamu area while allegedly negotiating a N20 million ransom with the relatives of a kidnapped person.

Umar Mohammed, the army spokesperson, said Geyi is on the wanted list of security agencies and is believed to be part of a kidnapping gang operating around Wukari.

Preliminary investigations show that Geyi is linked to the kidnapping of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident from Jandei–Kulala, who was kidnapped on November 13, 2025. The victim is still being held by the kidnappers.

The army also revealed that they intercepted a phone call in which Geyi confirmed the victim was still in captivity and demanded a ransom. The security forces are continuing efforts to rescue the victim and dismantle the kidnapping syndicate.
