In Bauchi State, religious and community leaders are being called upon to boost faith-based guidance and counseling to help reduce the increasing number of broken homes and family instability. The appeal was made by the Bauchi State Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Societal Reorientation, Engineer Mohammad Abdulkadir Binni.

He spoke during a one-day workshop held in Bauchi, organized by the Bauchi State Shari'a Commission in partnership with the Office of the Bauchi State First Lady. The event gathered key stakeholders committed to strengthening family values across the state.

Engineer Binni highlighted that more families are facing conflicts and breaking apart, mainly due to poor communication, lack of spiritual grounding, and the erosion of traditional values. He stressed that faith-based efforts are essential to restore the sanctity of marriage and rebuild the moral fabric of society.

The commissioner explained that the government is dedicated to promoting peaceful and strong families by involving Islamic scholars, community leaders, and counselors to educate couples on their religious duties. He warned that when marriages fail, the negative effects ripple beyond the family, impacting children, communities, and societal morals.

He also expressed appreciation to Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad for his ongoing support in reorienting society and promoting good social values. The governor’s backing has enabled the government to implement programs aimed at preventing family breakdowns.

The workshop was described by the commissioner as timely and relevant, aligning with Islamic teachings on family life. He praised the organizers, including the Office of the First Lady and the Shari’a Commission.

The guest speaker, renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, emphasized the importance of proper matrimonial knowledge before marriage. He noted that many couples go into marriage excited but without understanding their rights, responsibilities, or the spiritual significance of their union.

Sheikh Daurawa stressed that Islam promotes patience, tolerance, mutual respect, and consultation—values that are increasingly missing in modern marriages. He advised couples to seek guidance from religious scholars and attend premarital counseling to build a peaceful home.

He warned that neglecting Islamic principles such as justice, kindness, and leadership within the family often leads to broken homes. Marital breakdown, he said, not only hurts spouses but also risks causing moral decay in society if children lack stable parental guidance.

The scholar called for continuous community-based counseling programs rooted in Islamic values and urged couples to embrace forgiveness and open dialogue. He insisted that disagreements are natural but should be resolved with maturity and faith.

Finally, Sheikh Daurawa urged religious institutions to actively mentor young couples and help society remember the sacredness of marriage.

The event was attended by Bauchi State First Lady, Hajia Aisha Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad, along with other dignitaries, demonstrating her strong commitment to promoting stable and morally guided families across the state.
