The Delta State Police Command has launched a full-scale manhunt for Chief Jerry Nkeeshe, the Owelle of Onicha-Olona, and members of his armed group following the brutal killing of three youths in Asaba on 24th November 2025.
According to preliminary investigations, Chief Nkeeshe allegedly led a group of vigilantes and suspected cult members—some reportedly disguised in army camouflage—to a parcel of land in Okwe community along the Asaba–Onitsha Road. The group attempted to enforce an unauthorised quit notice on the property without obtaining a court order. The operation reportedly met resistance, escalating into a violent confrontation during which the armed group opened fire indiscriminately, leaving three youths with gunshot injuries. The victims were confirmed dead while receiving treatment at a hospital.
In response to the attack, Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, deployed tactical units, intelligence operatives, and specialised investigators to track, identify, and apprehend all individuals involved. CP Abaniwonda condemned the incident as a reckless and brazen act of lawlessness, warning that no individual, regardless of title, influence, or backing, will be shielded from prosecution.
The CP also reassured residents that normalcy has been restored in the area and that sustained surveillance, intelligence-led patrols, and coordinated search operations are ongoing to prevent further disturbances. He called on citizens of Onicha-Olona, Asaba, and neighbouring communities to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any sightings or information related to the suspects via the Command’s emergency line: 08036684974.
The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring that those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.
